Why my anti-virus software alert about a virus inside a program?
The program does not contain viruses, but contains the functionality of computer management. Some antiviruses do not do detailed analysis and simply consider that Laitis is a virus.
Why voice recognition does not work?
Your microphone is not connected/not working/turned off.You did not enabled "voice commands" or "voice text typing" in the settings. The installed antivirus program blocks the application. You do not have an internet connection, or it is too slow.

Laitis is a program that lets you control your computer with your voice and dictate text. It offers a wide range of voice commands, which are macros activated by the words and phrases listed in them. It lets you use your computer fully without a keyboard or mouse.

Development History

The idea came from the 2011 article "Using Google Voice Search in your .NET application"[1].

In 2012, a prototype was developed that automatically recorded voice from the microphone and inserted text into any text field through the clipboard.

In 2013, the prototype was presented publicly[2]. In addition to text dictation, it had basic voice command functionality.

In early 2014, the prototype became part of BrutalPlayer and received a user interface[3].

By the end of 2014, the product became independent and was named Laitis[4].

In 2015, stable version 2.0 was released with new website control functionality[5].

In 2016, version 3.0 was released. Recognition became much faster, and functionality for communicating with a voice bot was added.

In 2017, version 4 of Laitis was released, where website control works through a browser extension. Several new action types and recognition and speech synthesis services were also added.

Version 5.0 was released in mid-2017. It added functionality for finding an element on the screen by its name and moving the mouse cursor to it. This significantly expanded the program's capabilities and removed a large number of unnecessary voice commands.

In 2018, version 6 was released. The program began supporting three languages: Russian, Ukrainian, and English. Audio recording and recognition algorithms were significantly improved. A post demonstrating text dictation became the most saved post of the week on pikabu[6].

Installation and Updates

The program consists of a single 1 MB Laitis.exe file. It installs, updates, and uninstalls itself. Program updates happen automatically, without user confirmation.

Voice Recording

The following voice recording methods are available:

Speech Recognition

Text recognition is currently available only with an internet connection. By default, the Google recognition service is used. Yandex, Microsoft, and Windows voice packages that support text dictation are also available.

At the moment, there is no product that can accurately recognize free-form Russian speech on the user's device without using computations on a remote server. When such technologies appear, Laitis will support them.

Text Dictation

You can dictate text into any text field. Two modes are available:

By default, automatic insertion of periods and commas is enabled. It inserts these punctuation marks based on the length of pauses in dictated speech.

You can add auto-replacements. Examples of commonly used auto-replacements from the Working with text collection:

Text-to-Speech

Text-to-speech is used for feedback in commands and conversations. The following online text-to-speech services are available: Acapela, ISpeech, Microsoft, VoiceRSS, Yandex. You can also use speech services installed in Windows, for example Speech2Go+Ivona.

Conversations

The program provides voice bot functionality that can be trained to communicate through phrase chains configured in the program. There are two conversation collections in the community: Conversations and Conversations 18+.

Commands

A voice command consists of a list of phrases that activate the command and a list of actions to execute. Command storage structure:

Immediately after installation, the user has access to more than 10 general-purpose command collections, enough to control a computer without a keyboard or mouse.

Custom commands can be created in the built-in editor. New commands can be made available to other program users by publishing them in the community.

Community

Contains command collections published by other users and approved by moderation, available for download. Has a publications section where users can rate other users' publications. Requires registration in Laitis.
